Mods to the Desert Rat...

Did some mods to the Desert Rat body. Once I finished painting and mounting

the body I realized that it was much wider than the stock redcat MT shell.

Because of the width I knew rocks and debris flying all over the engine area

would be a problem. I decided to make some inner fenders for the front and

rear wheel wells. They are made from thin molded plastic covered with vinyl

tape(for color). They don't add much weight to the shell at all and are quite

rigid. I made them so they would stop most large rocks and pebbles but still

allow good airflow. If these work well I will make them out of lexan to match

the body better.

Tell me what you guys think?... :D

I used some flexible almost clear plastic trays. I got them from a 6 drawer

toolbox I bought at Walmart a while back. It only cost me $6 so it was no

big sacrifice destroying two of the trays. I molded the cut plastic by holding

the pieces over my kitchen stove long enough to make them more pliable until

I got the desired shape. I wanted to make a prototype before I spent money

on some lexan and a heat gun. I mounted them using beadlock screws and

nuts. They give the body more of a desert runner look which was a nice side

affect plus they're functional. :D

They don't get in the way of anything even with the truck fully bottomed out.

The added weight is minimal. The rigidness is good so they won't be falling off

during any rough driving. The sides of the body don't bounce around as much

either because of all the support the screws give it. Don't see any negatives yet.

I think lexan will be a perfect material for these fender wells. I'll get the same

thickness as the shell. Should be good. :)

Dude,
I am loving your Ramp; that paint work is sick!
Thanks Prostock, check out the video...it looks even better hauling arse

down the street...lol

I'm glad people like it. I was really afraid it would come out looking like

crap...it was my first time and I didn't want to do a simple solid color.

I figured a nice shell like that deserved some effort on my part... :)
