Limiting straps

been working on some limiting straps for my MT...I pulled a shock end apart during last weekends bash session so figured i needed to find a cure.

Here's the 2 rear ones ready to mount and measure up before the wife stitches them, i got 3 more slots to cut in the front alloy tabs and one more standoff to make for the rear. I should have them mounted by tomorrow sometime.

The strapping is off 1500lb ratchet tie downs and then doubled over and stitched together...they don't stretch at all, they're 12mm wide and the alloy is 3mm thick

yep, on the opposite side of the shock on the rear with a 8mm standoff and running to inside the lower rear arm, on the front behind the shock again running to the front of the upper arm/upright retaining bolt

progress so far, got the fronts mounted just have to get the length right and get them stitched, rear standoffs are done just have to drill the lower arms and mock them up too...had to come inside though cos I'm cold and my hands stopped working

Nice job, looks like it will work out great.

Sell em, call them STOP EM FROM FLOPPIN LIMITING STRAPS.

How do you like the DS boots? I had a set, toe em up trying to put them on, I am going to stick to the HPI boots.

How about "moos Viagra straps" LOL

if I had a mill and rotary table I'd make a bunch...with the drill/file/hacksaw method it's taken a few hours to fab the alloy.

DS boots are ok...I used wd40 and small needle nose to get them on

I know exactly what you are talking about my stuff is all done usning the hand job method. I looked at Princess auto, they have a table top milling machine for 700.00 I think damn I'd like to have that. I better start saving my lunch money and just buy it, then we could get tinto trouble together. lol

Just as to put my 2 cents in I actually moved all my shocks to the inner top mounting position and put fuel line inside the shocks about 1/3 inch long and so far I haven't had any problems with them. This mod keeps your arms from drooping out to much and tearing up drive shafts, and also the fuel line gives the shocks a good "bump stop" at the end so as not to rip the end off. As a third note I have also noticed a better dampening rate when the shocks are at the higher angle. Let me know what you think of this setup.

I was going to do the fuel line job but the phatdad shafts with the kits are 5-6mm shorter and the fuel tube would really reduce my droop too much..., the shocks don't slam down with the kits and hpi 40wt it's when I get it wrong and barrel roll, last time I smacked it good landing bad off a jump ,it bottomed the shock out and pulled the rod end apart...limiting straps will stop the problem in it's tracks as it physically restrains the suspension movement from going too far.

For track racing the second hole in would probably work better but for jumping and soaking up rough terrain I prefer to keep the shocks more upright

i did a simular thing with my shocks but i used 3 o-rings per shaft. i found that to be the easest way to get the same exact size for all 4 corners. and it doesn't matter much with a short peice of fuel line but i would use fuel line to lower my 5b and it would tear apart and slowly become un-even. but i don't suspect that with short peices of line
